Nuevamente una sola planta produce 40 flores en una sola noche, más de 60 en tres noches consecutivas de floración.

UNCARINA GRANDIDIERI

Origen: Madagascar.

Es un arbusto muy ramificado o pequeño arbolito de tronco engrosado que puede alcanzar 3 metros de altura y 80 cm de circunferencia. Pierde las hojas en la temporada de descanso que, en zonas templadas, coincide con el invierno. El tronco es robusto y se engrosa con la edad. 

Las flores son amarillas con la garganta oscura parecidas a las de la petunia. 

Los frutos son cápsulas aplanadas cubiertas de espinas en forma de ganchos. 

Soportan muy bien el calor pero no así el frío. En verano deben regarse abundantemente y mantenerse completamente secas en invierno cuando entran en un periodo de reposo. 

Se reproducen por semillas.

It´s a multibranched shrub or small pachycaulescent tree that may reach a height of 3 meters and 80 cm girth. In temperate climates it gets dormant in winter losing the leaves. 

The stems are stout and become thickened with age.

The flower resembles a large Petunia in form and is bright yellow with a dark throat.

The fruits are flat capsules covered with small spines an tiny hooks. 

They are heat resistant plants but they don´t withstand cold humid weather 

It should be watered plentifully in Summer and kept dry in winter when they get dormant. 

Propagation is by seeds.

Origen: México (Michoacán)

Cactus epífito con tallos colgantes que se ramifican desde la base de la planta y que pueden alcanzar más de un metro de largo, con espinas muy finas cubriéndolos. 

Las flores son blancas, grandes y perfumadas y se abren al anochecer durando sólo una noche. 

Se multiplica por esquejes. 

No soporta el frío especialmente si es húmedo.

Epiphytic cactus that branch at the base. Stems are pendant, up to one meter long or even more with very fine spines covering them. 

Flowers are white, big and slightly scented.  They open at full darkness ans stay open till next morning.

Propagation is by cuttings. 

It doesn´t withstands cold temperatures espcially if it´s humid too.

Compré esta hoya etiquetada como Hoya macgillivrayi, y las hojas, de gran tamaño y color verde intenso, eran idénticas a las que observaba en fotos por internet. Después de tres años creciendo en un porche cubierto orientado al sur empezó a desarrollar flores y comprobé que no se trata de una Hoya macgillivrayi cuyas flores son enormes y muy espectaculares. 

No he conseguido averiguar qué especie o cultivar de hoya es éste.

BRASILIOPUNTIA BRASILIENSIS

Origen: Sudamérica (Brasil, Argentina, Perú, Paraguay y Bolivia).

Es un cactus que puede alcanzar una altura de hasta 9 metros, con un tronco cilíndrico y esbelto con cortas ramas horizontales de las que nacen segmentos aplanados, ovalados y espinosos, de color verde brillante.

Las flores son diurnas, amarillas y nacen a finales de primavera y en verano. 

En verano necesita algo más de agua que otros cactus aunque resiste la sequía. En invierno, con tiempo frío, debe mantenerse seco. La tierra debe drenar muy bien porque si el sustrato acumula agua tiene tendencia a pudrirse. 

Sólo resiste heladas muy débiles y con tiempo seco. 

Se reproduce muy fácilmente por esquejes. Los segmentos enraízan con facilidad.

Tree like cactus up to 9 metres tall. It has a slender cylindric main trunk with short mostly horizontal or declining branches bearing bright green branches of flattened, oval, spiny segments.

Flowers are diurnal and yellow and open in late spring and summer. 

In summer it needs a little more water than another cacti although it´s drought resistant. In winter with cold weather it should be kept dry. It needs very drained soil since is prone to rot. 

It withstands only very light frosts with dry weather. 

Propagation is easy by cuttings. Segments roots very easily.
