LAS SEMILLAS DE ZAMIA VAZQUEZII

Estas son las bonitas "semillas" de Zamia vazquezii. Las cycadales no tienen auténticas semillas porque son plantas muy primitivas y sus "semillas" carecen de la facultad de esperar propia de las auténticas semillas. Deben germinar nada más han sido fecundadas. Estas "semillas" no están fecundadas porque las cycas son plantas dioicas y nuestra Zamia vazquezii es hembra y no hay ningún macho en muchos kilómetros.

ZAMIA VAZQUEZII SEEDS

These are the showy "seeds" of Zamia vazquezii. Cycadales don´t have true seeds. They are primitive plants and their seeds haven´t the capacity of waiting to germinate: they must do that as soon as they are fertilized. These "seeds" aren´t fertilized because cycadales are dioecius plants and our Zamia vazquezii is a female plant and there isn´t any male in the surrondings.

Origen: sur y oeste de Europa

Es un helecho que prefiere inviernos templados y veranos húmedos con frondas de textura suave y bipinnadas que pueden llegar a medir hasta 1,20 metros.

Frecuentemente cultivado como ornamental, con varios cultivares disponibles. El nuestro es un cultivar llamado "Goethe farm".

Common name: Soft Shield Fern.

It´s a fern that prefers mild winters and moist summers with soft textured bipinnate fronds up to 1,20 metres long. 

Usually grown as ornamental with many cultivars avalaible. Our one is a cultivar called "Goethe farm".

ES UNA PROTEA, NO UN LEUCADENDRON

La recibí como un híbrido o cultivar de Leucadendron laureolum, y como tal subí una entrada al blog. Pero este invierno, al formarse el capullo floral, observé que era una especie de Protea.

Y aquí está: creo que es Protea "Pink Ice", un híbrido entre Protea neriifolia y Protea susannae, cultivado en la industria de la flor cortada por su resistencia.

IT´S A PROTEA NOT A LEUCADENDRON

I received it (it was a gift) as an hybrid or cultivar of Leucadendron laureolum and, as so, a new plant was added to this blog. But this winter, as the bloom was growing, I noticed it was not a leucadendron but a Protea.
And here It is: I think is Protea "Pink Ice", an horticultural hybrid between Protea neriifolia and Protea Susannae, a very resistant plant grown for cut flower industry.

Este verano nuestro "Trispinosus" nos ha dado un nuevo cono, algo mayor que el del verano pasado. 

This year our "Trispinosus" has given us a new cone, a little bigger than last year one. 

JUSTICIA AUREA

JUSTICIA AUREA  (sin. Justicia umbrosa)

Origen: Brasil

Es un arbusto siempreverde que puede alcanzar hasta 2 metros de altura (bastante menos en cultivo).

Prefiere semisombra.

Florece desde mediados de otoño hasta principios de invierno. La espiga floral está compuesta de numerosas flores que se van abriendo poco a poco por lo que puede durar casi un mes. 

Se propaga fácilmente por esquejes herbáceos.

Soporta heladas débiles y cortas sin demasiados daños.

It´s an evergreen shrub that can grow to 2 metres tall (much less in cultivation)

It prefers semishade.

It flowers from mid fall to early winter. Flower spike has many flowers which open little by little lasting nearly a month.

Propagation is very easy by herbaceous cuttings. 

It withstands frosts if they´re light and short.
