CERCIS SILIQUASTRUM
English version:
Origin: Mediterranean countries and Black Sea Coasts.
Common names: Judas Tree, Love Tree.
It´s a little deciduous tree very hardy and commonly grown as ornamental.
It´s called "Judas Tree" because there is a longstanding myth that Judas Iscariot hanged himself from a tree of this species. That´s very unlike because the timber of this tree is very fragile. The common name "Love Tree" refers to the heart shape of its leaves and the pink color of its flowers.
It flowers in early spring on naked branches.
Once stablished it withstands drought and moderate frosts.
