JATROPHA MULTIFIDA

Origen: América, desde México hasta Brasil.

Es un arbusto o pequeño arbolito que puede alcanzar 2 metros de altura. 

Hojas palmadas profundamente lobuladas que caen en invierno cuando la planta entra en parada vegetativa, momento en que hay que detener por completo los riesgos. 

Tiene propensión a pudrirse si se combinan humedad y bajas temperaturas. 

No soporta las heladas.  

Se reproduce por semillas. 

ESCALLONIA RUBRA

ESCALLONIA RUBRA:

Origen: Sudamérica, principalmente Chile y la zona de los Andes.

Es un arbusto perennifolio que puede alcanzar más de 2 metros de altura.

Soporta sin problemas heladas débiles. 

Se reproduce por esquejes.

Evergreen shrub that may reach 2 meters high or more. 

It withstands without problems light frosts. 

Propagation is by cuttings. 

UNCARINA GRANDIDIERI

UNCARINA GRANDIDIERI

Origen: Madagascar.

Es un arbusto muy ramificado o pequeño arbolito de tronco engrosado que puede alcanzar 3 metros de altura y 80 cm de circunferencia. Pierde las hojas en la temporada de descanso que, en zonas templadas, coincide con el invierno. El tronco es robusto y se engrosa con la edad. 

Las flores son amarillas con la garganta oscura parecidas a las de la petunia. 

Los frutos son cápsulas aplanadas cubiertas de espinas en forma de ganchos. 

Soportan muy bien el calor pero no así el frío. En verano deben regarse abundantemente y mantenerse completamente secas en invierno cuando entran en un periodo de reposo. 

Se reproducen por semillas.

It´s a multibranched shrub or small pachycaulescent tree that may reach a height of 3 meters and 80 cm girth. In temperate climates it gets dormant in winter losing the leaves. 

The stems are stout and become thickened with age.

The flower resembles a large Petunia in form and is bright yellow with a dark throat.

The fruits are flat capsules covered with small spines an tiny hooks. 

They are heat resistant plants but they don´t withstand cold humid weather 

It should be watered plentifully in Summer and kept dry in winter when they get dormant. 

Propagation is by seeds.

PACHYPODIUM SAUNDERSII

PACHYPODIUM SAUNDERSII  (sin. Pachypodium lealii subs. saundersii)

Origen: Mozambique, Zinmbabwue y Africa del Sur.

Es un arbusto suculento con un gran tallo de hasta 1,5 metros de altura. El tallo tuberoso puede alcanzar en su base un grosor de hasta 1 metro del que nacen numerosas ramas espinosas. 

Produce flores blancas con un toque púrpura. 

La reproducción es por semillas o esquejes (difícil, en Recregarden no hemos tenido éxito)

No soporta el fío sobre todo si es húmedo. Propenso a pudrición si el tiempo es fío y húmedo.

A succulent shrub with a large stem up to 1.5 m high. The exposed tuberous stem is up to 1 m in diameter and produces several narrow, thorny branches. It produces terminal clusters of large white flowers tinged with purple.

Propagation is by seeds or cuttings (difficult, here in Recregarden we haven´t had succes).

It doesn´t withstand cold and humid weather. Prone to rot if the weather is humid and cool. 

DURANTA ERECTA

DURANTA ERECTA  (sin. Duranta repens)

Origen: desde México hasta Sudamérica. 

Es un arbusto de crecimiento desmadejado que puede alcanzar 6 metros de altura y anchura, con algunas espinas axilares en los especímenes adultos. 

Las flores son de color azul lavanda pero hay cultivares de flores blancas. Los frutos son bayas de color naranja tóxicos para humanos y animales domésticos. 

Se reproduce por semillas y esquejes. 

Soporta heladas débiles. 

English version:

Common name: Golden dewdrop, Pigeon berry, Skyflower.

It´s a sprawling shrub thar may reach 6 meters tall and wide with some axilaruy thorns in mature specimens. 

Flowers are usually lavender blue but there are withe flowers cultivars. Fruits are orange berries, toxic  for humans and domestic animals. 

Propagation is by seeds or cuttings.

It withstands light frosts. 

BAUHINIA GALPINII

BAUHINIA GALPINII

Origen: Sur de Africa.

Es un arbusto de crecimiento un tanto desordenado, con hábitos semitrepadores cuando es cultivado bajo árboles. Puede alcanzar 3 metros de alto y ancho.  

Tiene las características hojas bilovadas del género Bauhinia. 

Soporta heladas débiles y tiene cierta resistencia a la sequía. 

La reproducción es fácil por semillas.

It´s a sprawling shrub with semi-climbing habits when grown under trees. It usually grows to 3 metres high and wide.
It has the bilobed leaves characteristic of gebus Bauhinia.
It withstands light frosts and is some drought-hardy.
Propagation is easy by seeds.

IOCHROMA CYANEUM

IOCHROMA CYANEUM

Origen: Perú, ecuador y Colombia

Es un arbusto o pequeño arbolito que puede alcanzar algo más de 3 metros de altura.

Es nativa de climas tropicales atemperados por la altura, por lo que no le gusta el calor excesivo, gusta de humedad ambiental y prefiere sombra o semisombra en las horas más calurosas del día.

Florece en el crecimiento del año por lo que admite podas fuertes.

Se multiplica por esquejes herbáceos en condiciones de humedad y calor moderado. En Recregarden no hemos tenido éxito.

Sólo soporta heladas muy débiles y cortas.

Common name: Violet Tubeflowers, Mini Angel Trumpet. 

It´s a shrub or little tree thar may reach a little more of 3 metres tall.

It´s native to tropical climates but temperated by height, so it dislikes extreme hot. It likes an humid environment and prefers shade or semishade in hottest hours of day. 

It flowers in new growth so it´s totally pruneable.

Propagation is by herbaceous cuttings with humid and moderated hot conditions. 

It only withstands short and very light frots.
