PLANTAS EPIFITAS: NUEVA ETIQUETA

Añadimos una nueva etiqueta: las plantas epífitas.

Plantas epífitas son aquellas que crecen sobre el tronco o las ramas de otra planta (excepcionalmente sobre las hojas) pero sin robar alimento de su huésped, sin parasitarlo.

Son normalmente plantas epífitas muchas especies de orquídeas y bromelias, numerosas especies de helechos y también algunos cactus e incluso arbustos.

Aquí en Recregarden tenemos como plantas epífitas algunas bromelias, helechos, cactus y subarbustos.

Pero también tenemos algunas plantas que, sin ser normalmente epífitas, están creciendo así.

Por ejemplo, Nephrolepis exaltata, que no suele ser epífita, creciendo sobre otro helecho, Dicksonia fibrosa. (Foto 1)

Es normal que algunos helechos crezcan epífitamente sobre un pino, por ejemplo Polypodium interjectum, pero es absolutamente excepcional que un pino crezca epífitamente sobre un helecho. Aquí, en Recregarden, lo excepcional se hace real. (Fotos 2 y 3)

Now we add a new label: epiphytic plants.

Epiphytic plants are those that grow on the trunk, branches or excepcionally on the leaves of another plant but without stealing nourisment fom their hosts. They´re not parasites.

Most orchids and bromeliads are epiphytic  but also many ferns and some cacti or even shrubs.

Here in Recregarden we grow some epiphytic plants as bromeliads, ferns, cacti and subshrubs.

But we also have some plants that, although they´re not epiphytic, are behaving as them.

For example, Nephrolepis exaltata is not usually epiphytic but here it´s growing on another fern, Dicksonia fibrosa. (Picture 1)

It´s usual for  some ferns to grow epiphytically on a pine, for example Polypodium interjectum, but it´s absolutely exceptional for a pine to grow epiphytically on a fern. Here in Recregarden sometimes what is exceptional becomes real. (Pictures 2 and 3)
