ABELMOSCHUS MANIHOT

Origen: Asia tropical y norte de Australia

Es de la familia de los hibiscos, lo que puede deducirse fácilmente por la forma de sus flores.

Es una planta vivaz de corta vida que se cultiva habitualmente como anual.

Suele tener un tallo central de hasta 2 metros de altura con ramas laterales mucho menores.

Sus hojas son comestibles y se suelen emplear en ensaladas o tortillas. (Otras partes de la planta son también comestibles aunque no se usan comúnmente).

Se reproduce por esquejes o semillas pero en Recregarden no hemos tenido suerte.

Sensible a las heladas, sólo soporta unos pocos grados bajo cero y por poco tiempo.

It´s a hibiscus relative what it´s easy to see for its hibiscus like flowers.

It´s a short lived perennial grown usually as annual.

Leaves are edible and used in salads and omelettes (others parts of the plant are also edible but they are not usually used)

It´s usually has a single central stem up to 2 metres high and short branches.

Propagation: by cuttings or by seeds (but in Recregarden we haven´t been lucky)

Frosts sensitive, it withstands only light and short frosts.
