YUCCA ALOIFOLIA

Origen: zonas costeras del sur de Estados Unidos y de México.

Esta yuca tiene un tronco principal, poco ramificado, que alcanza entre 2 y 6 metros de altura. Tiene hojas de unos 60 cm rematadas con una afilada púa (de ahí su nombre común: yuca pinchuda o bayoneta española). Produce abundantes hijuelos en la base del tronco principal.

Entre finales de primavera y otoño produce panículas de flores blancas. 

Se reproduce fácilmente plantando los hijuelos que suele producir en la base. 

Soporta la cercanía del mar, suelos muy pobres y heladas débiles.

This species has an erect main trunk, reaching up to 2-6 metres tall, with few branches. It´s armed with sharp pointed leaves, hence its common name. It also produces offshoots near the base of the trunk forming a thicket.

Between late spring and fall it develops a long spike of white flowers. 

Propagation is easy by removing the offshoots from the base of the trunk and repotting them. 

It withstands salt spray, poor soils and light frosts.
