PASSIFLORA X VIOLACEA

Origen: es un cruce entre Passiflora caerulea (procedente de Brasil, Argentina y Paraguay) y P. racemosa (sureste de Barsil).

Es una de las especies más resistentes, soportando sin aparentes problemas las heladas débiles, de ahí su éxito en jardinería.

Estas plantas fueron bautizadas con el nombre de flores de la pasión por los misioneros españoles en el siglo XVI, que quisieron ver en las flores símbolos de la pasión de Cristo: la corona representa la corona de espinas, los cincos estambres son las cinco heridas, los tres estigmas, los tres clavos y los cinco pétalos y cinco sépalos son diez apóstoles (menos Pedro y Judas)

Origin: It´s a cross between Passiflora caerulea (native to Brazil, Agentina and Paraguay) and P. racemosa (southeast of Brasil)

It´s one of the hardiest species, it´s withstand light frosts without problems, hence its popularity in gardening.

The name "passion flower" was given for XVI century spanish missionaries who thought they saw a reference of crucifixion of Christ: the corona is the crown of thorns, the five anthers are the five wounds, the three styles are the three nails ant the five petals and five sepals are ten apostles (les Peter and Judas)
